I've become a big fan of Food Basics' 99-cent weeks, and there's one starting Saturday. Combining some of their good deals with things we already have, I think I could do the food items this week for about $90 (plus a bit for paper necessaries). Sample items: containers of Parmesan cheese for 99 cents; Arrowroot cookies for 99 cents; Italpasta 450 g (1 lb.) bags of spaghetti 2 for 99 cents; lettuce, grapes, celery (it won't be big bunches at that price) and baby-cut carrots for 99 cents each. Chicken legs too, also 99 cents a pound.
It isn't $60, but not bad. We'll shop tomorrow and see how we do.
Dinner plans:
Saturday: Waffles and sausages
Sunday: Canadian Living's Roast Chicken Dinner (chicken, potato and veggies), rolls (Note: if you're trying this recipe, it's written to serve two people.) Cupcakes and fruit.
Monday: Broccoli-chicken quiche, carrot sticks, sesame bread.
Tuesday: Meatballs and frozen veggie stir-fry over rice
Wednesday: Tuna-biscuit wrap, broccoli, sweet potatoes
Thursday: Hot dogs, leftovers, salad
Friday: Spaghetti with meat-mushroom sauce, salad if there's any lettuce left, bread, fruit, cookies.
