The proper name of this book is What Am I? a collection of short stories. It's the followup to Beehive Reader 1, which was written to correlate with All About Spelling Level 1, and which is being renamed Cobweb the Cat as of April 2010. What Am I? corresponds with Level 2, Steps 1-14, and contains ten illustrated stories for beginning readers.Where do you get this? What Am I? will be available for purchase on April 1 at All About Spelling and its sister site, All About Reading. I believe the price will be the same as the first volume, US$20.Crayons' impression: "Awesome. Are we going to get more of these?"Mama Squirrel's impression: My only negative comment is that this book feels just slightly more strained than the first volume, as far as trying to work in phonetically correct words. Usually it works just fine, but occasionally you feel you're reading something like "Joe quietly picked six razors from the woven bag." Since Crayons doesn't need to sound out the words in this reader, she can't give me much feedback in how helpful the book would be for a beginning reader, or whether, at the second spelling level that it's aimed at, it would be more helpful than "regular" beginning reader books. From our experience, it's harder to find reading practice material for the very beginning reader stage than it is when they're ready for Arnold Lobel and co.
But, like the previous volume, it's printed with obvious attention to quality--hardcover, good paper, a variety of stories--so it should be useful to those using All About Spelling and a nice reading option even for those who aren't.
