This is going to be what they call an "information review," since we didn't review the actual Super Star Speech material here but one of the enrichment games instead.
What is Super Star Speech? Speech therapy materials for use at home, designed by a homeschooling mother and licensed Speech language pathologist a with Master’s degree in Education/ speech pathology. The materials can be used alone or to supplement other speech therapy.
So: if you want to work with your child yourself on specific sounds or on overall speech habits, these books contain everything needed (except maybe an extra dose of patience). You get an assessment test, lesson plans, games and activities (printed on cardstock), and so on.
The website does warn that "If your child has many articulation errors, or another type of speech problem such as a language delay or stuttering, or if you are not able to commit to working with your child and his speech regularly at home, please seek the assistance of a speech-language pathologist. Likewise, if your child has a physical problem that affects his speech, such as a hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, or cleft palate, this book does not attempt to address those more complex issues." But for non-complex problems, this sounds like something that could be very helpful for the money. If you click on the link at the bottom of this post, you can read reviews from homeschoolers who have tried this product with their children.
What we actually received to review was The Inventors Game--not the Parker Brothers board game, but an educational matchup game by the same name. To be honest, I'm not too excited about this; it's more or less just a set of printable cards to match names of inventors with their most famous inventions, and a list of same. This could be useful as a flashcard drill after a unit or book on inventors, but it's the sort of thing that I think would be better for kids to create themselves as an end-of-unit project. I could see, though, maybe using them as cards on a timeline of inventions, and maybe supplementing them with homemade additions of other inventors/inventions that you read about. (Be aware, if you're limited to b/w, that these are designed for a colour printer.) There are several other game topics offered in the same series, so you might find something that connects with a study you've been doing.
But do check out the speech materials if you know someone that could benefit from some home help.
