What we're on track with: Genevieve Foster's books (Augustus Caesar's World for Ponytails, George Washington's World for Crayons). As much of Story of the World Volume 4 as we thought we needed to cover. Whatever Happened to Justice? Crayons' literature (done Kidnapped, almost done Robinson Crusoe). Crayons' math and spelling. Ponytails' math and science. Ponytails' Easy Grammar Plus (yes, really, Ponytails: I didn't expect you to get through the whole book).
What we're behind on: Latin and French--we got slowed down over the past couple of months, and it's been hard to get back on track. Formal writing--I had hoped to do more with Ponytails this year, but it didn't always happen. Crayons' Bible geography. Crayons' science went well for the first half of the year, but we haven't done it consistently over the past few weeks. We also haven't done much with artist and composer studies this spring, although I did pick up a new Elgar CD at the thrift store this week.
What went well: Marmee's Spice Studies. Extra-curricular drama classes and sewing days. Most of the books we read out loud. Key to Fractions (Crayons). The songs we learned with You-tube. Projects that Ponytails did with her dad.
What we never really did get around to: Drawing lessons mostly didn't happen this year, although Crayons made a lot of things with polymer clay. Crayons' Canadian children's literature study--we were busy reading other things.
Group readalouds: we've done a lot of group reading! Jack and Jill, The Fearless Treasure, Little Town on the Prairie, These Happy Golden Years, The First Four Years, most of The Hidden Art of Homemaking, most of Marva Collins' Way, most of It Couldn't Just Happen (we'll finish it this month), a bit of The Fallacy Detective, the sections from Ourselves that I had scheduled for this year, a lot of The Age of Fable, and Twelfth Night. Right now we are working on Macbeth, Plutarch's Life of Solon, Black Ships Before Troy, and The Scarlet Pimpernel (just started that as a spring windup book). We've also watched 25 (of 40) episodes of Liberty's Kids. LK corresponds mostly with Crayons' American Revolution history, but it also fits with the Founding Fathers references in Whatever Happened to Justice?
People who will probably stick in our memories: Thomas Paine. Achilles. Laura and Almanzo. Lafayette.
