CM is for thick heads?

Well, that's one way to describe CM methods!

"When I was ready for secondary school my parents chose a boarding school for me--Overstone, near Northampton.  It was a school of the Parents' National Educational Educational Union (PNEU).  All exams were set at Ambleside.  It was a school for those who found school work hard to learn, for all was done by repetition of lessons to put them into a thick head."  ~~ Blessings and Testings: A Twentieth Century Christian Life, by Josephine E. Bagby

What year was this? What did you think of that book? Can you tell me anything more? Interesting!

From joy to joy,

Hi Nancy,

The author says she was there during WWII, and I don't think she enjoyed it much.. She said she was miserably homesick the whole time. If you look at the Overstone alumni sit, though, many of the ladies seem to have much happier memories of their school days--it was a school founded by Henrietta Franklin, and "Miss Wix" (author of some PR articles) was the first principal.

I have not read the rest of the book; I found the preview online when I was looking for more info on Overstone.

Site, not sit.

Hmm. We seem to come across complaints from authors after the 1930s or so about the PNEU (Rumer Godden, Penelope Lively, etc.)Thanks!

But on the other hand, is it just a coincidence that all those writers had at least some PNEU education?
